Our tutorial guest is Lara Watson. She will be joined by 2 other First Nations activists to discuss the purpose and role of the First Nations Workers Alliance, its current and future priorities, and solidarity building.
Lara Watson is a Birri Gubba woman from Central West Queensland and the Indigenous officer with the ACTU.  She has been involved with the Trade Union movement for almost 15 years, starting as a workplace delegate and member organiser in South Australia, and moving into community campaigning as a Yr@w co-ordinator (Your Rights at Work Campaign 2005-8).
Lara is extremely proud of her role with the ETU (Electrical Trades Union) working on the anti-privatisation campaign ‘Not4Sale’ in Queensland and continues to be an ETU member.  Prior to the ACTU, she was the Indigenous Officer with the Queensland Council of Unions.
Lara has worked on numerous Indigenous campaigns with Unions, including the fight for Muckaty, Queensland Stolen Wages, the NT Intervention, and she is currently organising the First Nations Workers Alliance & the ‘Wage Justice’ campaign for Community Development Workers in remote Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities.

This is the second in an ongoing series of tutorials. The purpose of the programme is to build bridges of solidarity among the dozens of peoples organisations that are struggling against corporations and governments to build better lives. We argue in favour of connecting the many struggles into greater peoples movements of power. That means each of the campaigns and struggles must learn about and from the many others and test out ways of standing together that have been too absent for many years. We enable the voices of the struggles to be at the front of the tutorials and for others to listen, ask questions, make comments and learn to struggle at a higher level.
